FAQs

How do I book a cake?

The first step is simply to get in touch!

When you enquire, it’s really helpful if you can include:

  • Your date
  • Venue/location
  • Approximate number of guests
  • Any ideas you have for your cake
  • Your preferred flavours, if you know them
  • Any known allergies or intolerances

Once I have these details, I’ll check my availability and put together a quote based on what you’re looking for.

For wedding cakes, I may ask for a few extra details about your day and venue so that I can make sure the cake is right for you.

When is my cake booking confirmed?

Your date isn’t officially booked until you’ve accepted your quote and paid the required booking fee/deposit.

Until then, I’m unable to guarantee that your date will remain available.

Once your booking is confirmed, I’ll add it to my diary and begin planning your cake.

How much is the booking fee?

The booking fee/deposit will be confirmed when I send your quote.

Your booking fee is non-refundable. Once your booking is confirmed, I commit time and capacity to your order and, depending on the size and requirements of your cake, may need to turn away other orders for the same date.

The booking fee also covers the time spent planning and preparing for your cake and, where applicable, any ingredients or materials purchased specifically for your order.

The remaining balance will be due by the date agreed when you book.

Can I change my cake after I’ve booked?

Of course — I know plans and ideas can change!

I’ll always do my best to accommodate changes to your design, flavours, size, colours or decorations.

Please let me know as soon as possible, as changes may not be possible once your cake is in production or ingredients and decorations have been purchased. Changes may also affect the final price.

What if I need to change my date?

If your plans change, please get in touch as soon as possible.

I’ll always try to move your booking to a new date where I can, but this will depend on my availability. Unfortunately, I can’t guarantee that I’ll have your new date available.

If I’m unable to accommodate the new date, this may be treated as a cancellation of the original booking and the booking fee will remain non-refundable.

What if I need to cancel?

I completely understand that sometimes plans change.

If you need to cancel your order, please let me know as soon as possible.

As your cake is made specifically for you and I have committed time and capacity to your order, booking fees/deposits are non-refundable.

If you cancel after work has started or ingredients/decorations have been purchased, any payments already made will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Wedding cake bookings may have additional cancellation terms agreed at the time of booking.

How do I pay?

Your payment details and payment deadlines will be included with your quote/order confirmation.

Your booking is only confirmed once the required booking fee/deposit has been received.

What about allergies and intolerances?

I’m very happy to cater for allergies and intolerances wherever I can, so please tell me about any requirements when you enquire.

I can provide full ingredient and allergen information for your specific cake and will discuss your requirements with you before you book.

My cakes are made in a kitchen where wheat/gluten, eggs, milk, soya, nuts and other allergens may be present. I follow careful cleaning and hygiene procedures and take allergen requests seriously, but because allergens are used in my kitchen, I cannot guarantee that any cake is completely free from traces of allergens.

Ingredients and suppliers can change, so please always check the allergen information for your individual order.

If you have a severe allergy, please get in touch before ordering so we can discuss your requirements and whether I’m able to safely accommodate them.

Can I collect my cake?

Yes, collection is available for smaller cakes.

Cakes of 3 tiers or more must be delivered by Jamie Bakes Cakes. This is to ensure that larger and more delicate cakes are transported safely and arrive at your venue in the best possible condition.

Collection details and your collection time will be agreed when you book.

Once a cake has been collected, you are responsible for transporting and looking after it. I recommend keeping the cake flat, secure and cool during transport and avoiding leaving it in a hot car or direct sunlight.

I can’t be responsible for damage that occurs after collection.

Do you deliver?

Yes! Delivery is mandatory for all cakes of 3 tiers or more and will be arranged with you when you book.

Delivery is also available for smaller cakes by prior arrangement and may incur an additional charge depending on the location.

For larger cakes, I’ll deliver and, where appropriate, set up the cake at your venue to make sure everything is safely positioned and looking its best.

Please make sure I have the correct delivery address and any useful information about access, parking, venue opening times and where the cake needs to be delivered.

I’ll always aim to arrive within the agreed delivery window, but traffic, weather and other unforeseen circumstances can occasionally cause delays.

Once your cake has been safely delivered and set up at the agreed location, responsibility for the cake passes to you or the venue.

How should I store my cake?

Cakes should be kept somewhere cool and away from direct sunlight and heat.

Cakes containing buttercream, ganache or other perishable fillings may need to be refrigerated, depending on the cake and design.

If your cake has delicate decorations, please take care when moving or handling it.

Once your cake has been collected or delivered, I can’t be responsible for damage caused by incorrect storage, transportation, handling or display.

Will my cake look exactly like my inspiration picture?

I’m very happy to work from inspiration pictures, but all Jamie Bakes Cakes are handmade and bespoke.

This means there may be small differences in colour, decoration, piping and finish.

If you ask me to recreate another cake, I’ll use it as inspiration rather than producing an exact copy.

Can I choose any flavour?

I offer a range of flavours and fillings, which I’ll discuss with you when you enquire.

If you have something specific in mind that isn’t on my usual menu, just ask — I’m always happy to see what I can do!

What happens if something unexpected happens?

I will always do everything I reasonably can to make sure your cake is completed and delivered or ready for collection as agreed.

Theoretically, circumstances outside my control could affect an order — for example serious illness, accident, extreme weather, fire, power failure or venue closure.

If something unexpected happens, I’ll contact you as soon as possible and do everything I can to find a suitable solution.

Still have a question?

If I haven’t answered your question here, please just get in touch.

I’m always happy to chat through your ideas, answer any questions and help you choose the right cake for your celebration.
